Kevin and I stopped by the cooperative in San Marcos on Thursday to invite the bank manager, Juan, and his family to the farm next Saturday, June 8th. He had been very helpful when we first arrived and we always had the intention to thank him by cooking him some trout... and we just never got around to it. We did stop by the cooperative a couple of times and he wasn't in his office so we kept postponing. When we stopped by a couple of days ago, he was there. He seemed pleased.
This morning, I woke up and wasted no time in starting the transformation in our living room/kitchen area. I washed the walls and removed all the dishes from the shelves. I primed and just as I was beginning my first coat of paint, Frankie started barking... alerting us to something outside. Kevin was sitting on the terrace, birdwatching and I heard him get up and then voices. He was talking to someone. I got down from my ladder and checked to see who our visitor was. It was Juan, his wife and their son and daughter. Juan had misunderstood and thought he meant to come by today. We definitely were not prepared to receive any guest. I was in my painting gear and our house was a complete mess. We felt badly. They stayed for about half an hour. Kevin showed them around and I spoke my best Spanish with Juan's wife, Carmen. They will be back next Saturday and we look forward to it. In the meantime, I'll be very busy this week finishing the paint job. It's a big one, there's a lot to do, but nothing like a deadline to get me cracking.
