Having my dear friend, Alise, here for a week was fabulous, and I was sad to have to say goodbye on Wednesday. I drove her back to San Jose so she could catch her flight back to Canada early in the afternoon. I parked the car and walked her to the airline counter where she checked her bag and got her assigned seat. As we were walking towards the security line, we stopped into a gift shop. I spotted a rack of books... in English!! WOW, jackpot! I checked out the titles and landed on "Quiet" by Susan Cain. It's all about how introverts cope in an extroverted world. I know many people think I'm extroverted because I can be quite sociable and chatty. I'm certainly not shy and I'm pretty open. Although that's true, I need a lot of time alone to recharge my energy (which is ultimately the definition of an introvert). Extroverts get their energy through external factors... being with people recharges them. So, the topic of this book intrigues me. I haven't started it yet, but will start tomorrow, I think. I always look forward to cracking open a good book. I've heard good reviews, so I'm hopeful.  We have more B&B guests arriving late in the week so we have a little break until then. And we have my daughter, Phoenix, coming with a friend for a week in early May to look forward to. I can't believe it's almost May... where does the time go?
Oh, and let us not forget about the rain... finally!! The skies opened up and it rained for several hours on Friday and Saturday. This is a very good thing.

My very good friend, Alise, arrived from Canada for a one-week visit. We have known each other for 45 years!!! It's one of those friendships where long periods of time will go by in between visits, but we're able to pick up where we left off. It's an amazing thing. We've been so busy chatting and catching up that I completely lost track of time and forgot to write my Sunday post. I've been having fun and we're trying to make every moment count because she's leaving this Wednesday.  In other news, yesterday a bird flew into the house and Kevin rescued it. It was pretty stunned from banging into the window, so Kevin coddled her for awhile... she seemed pretty comfortable and was in no hurry to fly away. At one point, Kevin gave her a little encouragement, but the bird landed on his finger and wouldn't fly away. Several minutes went by and still the bird stayed perched. I had never seen a wild bird react this way. We believe she is a warbler of some kind. Sweet little thing.  An old family friend sent me a Facebook message last week telling me that her nephew, Nick, was planning to take a trip to Costa Rica with one of his buddies. She had given him our details in case they were able to come visit. On Monday evening, I received a message from Nick asking if he and his friend, Spencer, could come by the following day. We had no guests on Tuesday, so we were delighted to say yes. Both Nick and Spencer graduated the same Coast Guard program and have been friends ever since. They work on separate ships on the coast of British Columbia, but they're schedule of one month of work and one month off work allows them to travel. They decided very spur of the moment to visit Costa Rica. They were super nice guys and spent the whole day with us. They caught some trout and I made them lunch. Kevin gave them the tour and then they went hiking on our trails. Check out their guestbook note here. Here is Spencer showing off his catch!  And here are Spencer, me and Nick... sometimes a bright sun shining in our faces is not our friend. This is a terrible picture (of me), but life's too short to worry about vanity... I'm glad to have the memory of such a nice day with these two guys.  On Wednesday evening, we went to dinner at our friends' Adriana and Roberto. The dinner was delicious as always and the company even better. We've been so busy this season with the B&B that we simply haven't had much opportunity to socialize, but sometimes it's good to take a break. Then on Thursday, I drove to San Pablo to visit my dear friend, Catalina, and her baby boy, Carlitos. It was so wonderful to catch up. Today, we received a Canadian couple, Jeanne and Michael, from Quadra Island in B.C. They also caught their dinner, as seems to be the routine around here. We look forward to spending more time with them tomorrow and learning more about them.   We are right on the verge of the rainy season... we haven't had any rain since January (or certainly nothing worth mentioning), so we very much look forward to having everything green again. The fireflies have shown up... and that's the first sign. And every afternoon, for the past week or so, the dark clouds have been teasing us... hovering above the mountain peaks. Not a drop... until four nights ago when it rained for about an hour. It wasn't much, but better than nothing. Then, two nights ago, it came... a downpour that lasted several hours. We could nearly hear the grass, trees, plants and flowers say "aaaaahhhhh". Although it's been a fabulously beautiful 'summer' for us and our guests, everything has its season and we welcome the change!
