Curb appeal

We planted some flowers today to help with the curb appeal. I love flowers. I love this weather! It’s perfect. 24°C. Fabulous. Our grass is also filling in and getting greener. Nice.

Black bear in the burbs

The viewing today was the couple in the light blue Lexus SUV. They came at the first Open House, and then again for a second viewing. Apparently they were only in the house for 15 minutes. Not sure what that means. We sit and wait. It’s almost 9 pm and the phone hasn’t rung,… and so it goes. One interesting thing that happened today is that a black bear was shot and killed just north of where Phoenix lives, in Burlington. How odd. Bears  are definitely not a common occurrence in our area.

Light, camera... action!

We got a call today asking us if we’d like to have our house featured on a television show called Urban/Suburban. The premise of the show is there’s a brother and sister realtor team and the brother tries to convince the buyers they want to buy in the city and the sister tries to convince the couple they will get more bang for their buck if they move to the suburbs. I’ve only seen it twice, but it’s just another spin on all the other reno/decorator/realtor type shows on the HGTV network. We agreed to participate and they start filming in early June. Another new and different experience we can add to our portfolio. We also have another viewing tomorrow at 1:30. It’s the first in over a week.

Perfect day

Mother’s Day today and what a beautiful day it was. Phoenix and Jude bought me brunch (and flowers). Lots of laughs were had by all. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening with Kevin.

Considering a price drop

Well, it appears the chiropractor and massage appointments both did me some good. I feel so much better already. Why do I wait so long? I didn’t think we’d get too many people at the Open House today, but that wasn’t the case… quite a few groups came through. About 15. The numbers are dwindling, but still a good turnout considering it’s the 4th Open House in 4 weeks. While Kevin and I were walking Frankie by the lake, enjoying an ice cream in the blazing sunshine, we were discussing what we’re willing to do to make Costa Rica happen. We’ve come to the agreement that we’ll give it another week at the current price and if we don’t get any bites we’ll drop the price after the long weekend. And, if we have to, we are both willing to dip into our RRSP (registered retirement savings plan for those of you who don’t live in Canada).

Broken record

It’s been a few days since I’ve written. There’s just not that much to say at the moment. No activity with the house at all this week. No viewings, nothing. Another Open House tomorrow. I’m sounding like a broken record. I’ve not been sleeping well all week, but last night I took a sleeping pill, which I so rarely do, and it seemed to help. I’ve also made appointments to see my chiropractor and massage therapist tomorrow. I have so much tension in my neck, perhaps an adjustment and some relaxation will help alleviate the headaches I’ve been experiencing for the last few weeks. The sun is shining and the temperature is warming up. It’s a beautiful day out there today.

The downside

Still had lots of activity at our third Open House yesterday. The couple never called Linda back, so she emailed them and they replied saying the kids were not keen: lack of pool and longer walk to school was the reason given. I feel so deflated right now. I would say a little depressed. I’m starting to doubt this is going to happen. I have to remind myself that it’s only been 3 weeks, but I felt like this was going to be a quick sale. I’ve emailed my friend Keri, to set up a girls’ night so she can present the Arbonne skin care products. If this Costa Rica venture does not pan out, I have to start thinking about what I’m going to do for money. I just cannot stay at my job any longer or I’ll have a nervous breakdown. I feel on the edge already. Not sure how much more I can take. I’m trying to stay centered and positive. I need to think about something other than this house and Costa Rica and leaving. Maybe if I put my attention on something different and fun, my energy will shift, too.

The upside

We had a viewing this afternoon. Kevin was there with Linda. A woman came alone, then she called her husband to come see the house. Apparently they were very keen. Talking about where they would put their furniture, etc. The man had to leave to pick up their kids, but came back with them. Kevin didn’t feel they were particularly emotive (11 and 15-year-old boys) so he didn’t know what they were thinking. Anyway, they spend over an hour and 40 minutes in the house, asking all kinds of questions. Linda expected to hear back from them with an offer. Well, it’s 10 pm and we’ve not heard a peep. So exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.

Different market than we're used to

No offers. No viewings. Nothing all week. Linda is now going to put our house on the Toronto Board, whatever that is, to cast a larger viewing audience. And we’re having another Open House this Saturday. She’s still feeling very positive and optimistic. She says it’s a different market at our price. It takes time and only one buyer… the right buyer. I look at the pictures of the farm on my desktop monitors and dream of the day we’ll be there. Sigh.

Making plans for Nigel... I mean Jude

5/2/2012

I had dinner with Jan, my children’s paternal grandmother. I warned her that Jude has decided not to come to Costa Rica when we sell the house (notice I prefer to say 'when' rather than 'if'). I also warned her that he will be asking her if he can live with her and Dean (Jude’s grandfather). She said that he could. I told her to think about it. She seemed delighted with the opportunity to spend more time with Jude and thought it might be very good for Dean, too. After the death of their son, Jude and Phoenix’s dad and my ex-husband… there have been lots of issues that have surfaced for all of us, at different times, over the years. Chris died 10 years ago this August. It suffices to say that there may be an opportunity for some healing. I hope so, for everyone concerned. At least now, knowing Jude is likely going to have somewhere to live in Burlington when we leave, I can breathe a little easier.

* For those who don't know the pop-culture reference to 'Making plans for Nigel'... it is a tile of a song by XTC, which I used to listen to way back in the 80s.

Dave and Krista are a couple from the Pacific Northwest that led overwhelmingly busy lives.
As her son Hayden was graduating high school, and daughter Korynn wrapping up college, they realized it was time to slow down. Life was going far too fast . They wanted to take the time to enjoy stress free living with their eight year old son Quinn.
Having visited Hush Valley Lodge as guests in January of 2016, they decided this would be the exact change they needed.
In the pursuit of happiness, they partnered with Jo, Peter, Molly, Gary and Dan to make this dream a reality, and are currently the stewards of the magic that is Hush Valley Lodge.
