![]() Magnificent Hummingbird Holly, another neighbour from Rio Blanco (she lives next door to Roberto and Adriana) came by this morning at 9 am and showed us two bird books. We spent quite a while looking at all the birds on each page. Holly told us which birds she's identified on her property and in and around our area. We've certainly noticed the hummingbirds and what we thought were House Martins, but we were told today they're actually a type of Swallow. We took a walk on our property, binoculars in hand, and followed Holly. Our eyes were opened to a whole new world. We saw a dozen different types of birds. We often see the Magnificent Hummingbird, but it just looks black most of the time. Today, I saw one and the sun was shining on it just the right way and I saw its gorgeous purple and aqua plumage (this image was borrowed from the internet because I didn't have my camera, but it looked just like this one). I got goosebumps it was so thrilling. We will definitely be buying those two books and keep track of the birds we spot. One of the books explains what the birds eat, their habits, their habitat, etc. Who would have thought that birdwatching would be so much fun, and interesting! We asked Holly if she would be interested in being a birdwatching guide for our guests, and she said she'd love to. We may be on to something pretty darn amazing here.
