I can't believe it's Wednesday already. Kevin and I woke up at our usual early time and we were both out the door by 7 am. The kids were still in bed in the guesthouse and I didn't expect them up for a couple of hours so I decided to dig up the tomato plants, which were all infected with white flies. I had removed all the leaves last week, just to see if I could get a few more tomatoes. I did harvest a dozen nice red ones this morning, but it was times to get rid of these plants. I cut all the stems off and then burned the soil. I hate using gas to ignite a fire... and under cover I'm even more apprehensive, but I sprinkled a little bit of gasoline on as suggested by Kevin and added some dry straw... just a little bit and I only did small chunks at a time. Although everything went well, I think we'll have to turn the soil over and do it again.
By 9 am the kids were both up and I took Phoenix on the ATV up the road to Trinidad so she could take some pictures, came back, had some lunch then went back out up our mountain. We drove up the same trail Jude and I hiked up yesterday. Then when we reached the upper gate, we kept going up. This took most of the afternoon. Meanwhile Jude was exploring the trails on his own by foot. It's now 3:15 pm and we're just heading out to meet the high school students at the Copey Learning Center. And then we've been invited to Adriana and Roberto's place for dinner. I'm sure it will be a great end to a great day.
