When we came back from Santa Maria today, after being on the internet, we fed the fish, made some dinner and settled in to watch a movie. All of a sudden something flew by our heads. Bigger than a moth (although the black moth Kevin captured and let go an hour earlier was as big as my hand with my fingers spread wide open). This was no moth. It was darting around very quickly and we could hear the flap of its wings. It was a bat! Bats are harmless (we quite like them, just not as pets) so we weren't worried. We opened the double doors to give it the opportunity to fly away (of course, also giving the opportunity for other flying creatures to fly in... 50/50 risk). The bat flew higher into the loft (so much for that bright idea). I went upstairs and turned on the light as I wasn't keen on having an overnight guest... well not this overnight guest. I saw him hanging on the bed frame, trying to grasp the wooden rail. I opened the loft window, but it flew the other way directly into all our stored boxes. Kevin and I looked for him amongst the boxes, trying to be careful not to squish him. I knew he was in there, but he was hiding well. We decided to close the window and let him be. We watched our movie without a peep from our uninvited friend. A few hours later, we went to bed. I was already in bed while Kevin was doing his nightly rounds; making sure the river was behaving, letting Frankie out, turning off the last light and locking up. Suddenly the bat flew right by his head and scared him half to death... Kevin quickly opened the front door and the bat flew right out, just like that.
P.S. Still haven't heard from our friends at ICE, so still no internet at home. Hopefully, next week.
