![]() Some mornings you just wake up wanting to hack something down... and this morning was my day. Although I still had plenty of weeding to do, Clara did show up so she spent two hours picking up where I left off yesterday. But what really needed to get done today, I felt an incredible urge, was to prune all our plants. We have many flowering trees and they've not been pruned properly so the trunks have become thick and woody. In Canada, the seasons are definite and it's easy to know when to plant, when to harvest and when to prune and prepare for the winter months. Here, it's a lot trickier. Since the weather doesn't go through any particular cycle, it's hard to know what rules apply and when. Since the rainy season is just around the corner, I took a leap of faith and decided to start cutting back many of our plants. ![]() These Hydrangeas are supposed to be blue, but they're mostly brown. Not very attractive. I'm hoping pruning mercilessly will help improve its health. By the way, I'm learning a lot about plant names... I'm terrible at remembering which flower is call what... I used to think these were Pyrenees... apparently not. God bless the internet and Google search. ![]() Down to the nub. It poured for about an hour later in the day, which is great! Hopefully, I've not killed it. I thought it best to keep a bit of green foliage, mostly for my own peace of mind: something to make me believe.

The green foliage of your hydrangeas looks very healthy, so the plant is not dead.
