One year ago today, I said goodbye to all my friends and colleagues at my workplace, Davis, where I spent 13 years of my life. I can't believe it's been a year already! The decision to leave our stable, well-established, suburban life for one of uncertainty and adventure was not easy. There was a whole bunch of excitement on the one hand mixed with fear of the unknown on the other. What the heck did we know about running trout ponds in the rural mountains of Costa Rica? Could we really start up a B&B in the middle of 'nowhere' and be successful? We didn't even know how to speak Spanish (and still struggle at best).
We did it anyway. Sometimes taking a risk yields the best reward... and ever so enriching. My days at the office now consists of gardening, collecting manure, trail blazing, writing, teaching, learning Spanish, meeting people and developing interesting projects... and the commute, well, can't beat it!
