I've been mulling things over since we've been here and now that Isabel is back, I've asked her if she can teach me the dos and don'ts of gardening in Costa Rica. The first thing she told me is that the soil is very acidic here and we'll need a lot of fertilizer to increase the pH levels. She knows someone who provides all organic fertilizer, so we'll get some of that immediately, but ultimately, I want to create our own organic compost. I've been trying to think of how to use the hatchery since we won't be using it to hatch trout. It seems such a shame not to make use of it somehow. I asked Isabel if she thought the hatchery's concrete containers might be good to start composting and she seemed quite interested in trying it. She said she will help me. Also, today, Clara showed us a tree on our property that has a nest in it: a small bird . Very cool. Also, she broke a leaf off the branch and made me smell it. It had the most amazing scent. I was walking around all day putting the leaf to my nose just to be reminded of its fragrance. I wonder if I can press these leaves and make oil? Or just put them in the bath. I'll have to investigate further. Our land is full of surprises... mostly good ones!

Dave and Krista are a couple from the Pacific Northwest that led overwhelmingly busy lives.
As her son Hayden was graduating high school, and daughter Korynn wrapping up college, they realized it was time to slow down. Life was going far too fast . They wanted to take the time to enjoy stress free living with their eight year old son Quinn.
Having visited Hush Valley Lodge as guests in January of 2016, they decided this would be the exact change they needed.
In the pursuit of happiness, they partnered with Jo, Peter, Molly, Gary and Dan to make this dream a reality, and are currently the stewards of the magic that is Hush Valley Lodge.
