Planting my seedlings
Isabel came by this morning to help me plant my little broccoli and lettuce seedlings. We prepared the garden beds with rich compost and lime to give them a fighting chance. Many of the vegetables grown here are not native to the mountains, or Costa Rica for that matter, so it's a bit of a gamble as to whether they grow and produce anything worth eating. Some plants do better than others, and apparently some years yield better crops than other years. I'm just getting my hands dirty and trying to learn as much as Isabel is willing to teach me. We also planted some Cosmos and Calendula flowers in the flower beds. I don't think the radishes have taken, at least I can't see anything growing. The carrots, however, are abundant and will need to be thinned out properly in a week or so. I even found some arugula leaves growing next to the carrots... I didn't plant arugula, so that's a nice surprise.
