![]() Today we decided to visit Gladys and Gloria. They are sisters and are both nuns. They opened their home to us this time last year when we visited Costa Rica for the first time. God bless them. Such lovely people. They run a daycare and school for underprivileged children in what would be considered a pretty rough neighbourhood in San Jose. We arrived earlier than expected. The traffic on Sunday, we're learning, is easy breezy (we had anticipated a two-hour drive, but it only took us an hour and a quarter.) Gladys welcomed us and we sat and chatted for an hour or so in the front reception room of the school. With her broken English and our very limited Spanish somehow we found a way to understand each other. We showed her pictures of our property on Kevin's laptop. Then we asked her if the market was opened today. As luck would have it, the market is usually open only on Saturday, but since it was Independence Day yesterday, the market was postponed to today. Lucky us! We hopped in the SUV and drove just a few blocks. Gladys had brought us to this same market last year and we were impressed with the size. It's huge with lots and lots of fruits and vegetables. Gladys is in her 70s, but she's feisty and walks with purpose. When we pointed at a vegetable or fruit we wanted to buy, she would quickly tell us we didn't want those and she'd lead the way to a better bunch a few stalls down the alley. We ended up getting a whole lot of different fruits and vegetables for under $10. Bargain! Then we went back to the school and Gloria was now there to greet us so we chatted with her until the third sister Isabel (not a nun) and her daughter Gladys (who speaks English) joined us for a delicious Mexican tortilla soup lunch. We had met them last year as well so it was a nice surprise to see them again. We were asked to show the pictures again and they said they would come visit. How nice! We left mid-afternoon and got back to Copey by 4 pm-ish. I called the kids and my mum on our Magic Jack, the signal is never brilliant, and Kevin's laptop battery was nearly dead, but I was able to have a short conversation with all three. Talking to them always makes me so happy, happy, happy!
