Still no internet.
This morning Kevin finished staining the two bridges, while I went exploring on our overgrown trail. The trail is narrow and winds upwards along the river's edge. It's quite steep in some areas, but the trail is manageable. I had the machete that Kevin bought me, but either it needs sharpening or I'm doing something wrong. Chances are very good that I'm doing it wrong. I followed the more beaten path in hopes it would lead to the pasture. Thankfully, it did. Once in the pasture, I walked in thick, deep mud and manure. I slurped and slopped my way to the gate. As I approached, Nicole's white horse, Paloma, stood in front of me. I could see she was tentative: probably wondering who the hell is this woman with a machete in my pasture. Little does she know that she, if fact, is the guest in our pasture. I walked slowly towards her, then stopped. She very tentatively walked a few steps towards me. I walked a few more steps. This went on until I was close enough to stroke her neck and nose. She seemed calm and I exhaled. I like horses... just glad she likes me, too. Horses are big, and a kick in the head is no fun, I hear. I got to the gate and the barb wire that kept it closed was too tight for me to undo. I thought I might have to go back the way I came. Then I sussed out the gate itself and decided the bars were probably far enough apart for me to slipped through. I gave it a try, and before I knew it, I was on the other side. Then I walked down the gravel road to our driveway. It was a lovely little excursion. I think I'll do it again tomorrow.
